This week, students participating in Gedeon GRC’s H.A.R.T. (Health, Arts, Robotics and Technology) High School work-based learning program had the opportunity to see how engineering shapes the world around them every day.

Led by Rudolf Gedeon, PE, President & CEO, and Zafar Iqbal, PE, PTOE, Director of Traffic Engineering, students explored the fundamentals of traffic engineering and learned how traffic signals help keep communities moving safely and efficiently.

The experience included a visit to a nearby intersection, where students gained a firsthand look at how traffic signals operate in real-world conditions. They also explored traffic signal simulations and discovered how emerging technologies, including drones, are being integrated into traffic engineering workflows to collect data, enhance analysis, and support smarter transportation solutions.

By connecting classroom lessons to real-world applications, the program continues to provide students with valuable exposure to the engineering profession while showcasing the innovative technologies shaping the future of infrastructure. Opportunities like these allow students to learn directly from industry experts, ask questions, and gain a deeper understanding of the many career paths available within engineering.
