Industry Engagement and Community Impact at the NED Alumni Association Event
April 29, 2026

Muhammad S. Akbar, PE, Resident Engineer on Gedeon GRC’s Construction team, recently represented the firm at the NED Alumni Association of Tri-State Event for Student Scholarship 2026—an event focused on professional engagement, community, and supporting the next generation of engineers.

The program brought together public-sector leadership and industry professionals from across the engineering and construction community. Muhammad had the opportunity to hear directly from Eric Macfarlane, Deputy Commissioner at the NYCDDC, and Bobby Issac, Assistant Commissioner at NYCDDC, along with other respected leaders who shared insights on leadership, public service, and the future of infrastructure.

In addition to attending the speaker program, Muhammad engaged in meaningful conversations with industry partners, including Michael Baker International, Jersey Pre-Cast, Malick & Scherer, ZI Engineering, Zofs Engineering, Sika Corp, M&J Engineering, Afridi Associates, and others. Many of these firms are current collaborators with Gedeon on active projects and joint ventures, making the event a valuable opportunity to strengthen relationships and continue industry dialogue in a more informal setting.

Beyond professional networking, the event supported an important mission, providing scholarships to students and investing in the future of the engineering profession. Participating in an initiative that promotes education, opportunity, and community made the experience especially rewarding.

We’re grateful to Muhammad for representing Gedeon GRC with professionalism and purpose, and for reinforcing our commitment to partnership, industry engagement, and future leaders.
