Robotics Meets Infrastructure: A Day of Innovation at Gedeon GRC Headquarters with Flyability
August 19, 2026

Exploring the Future of Bridge Inspections with Flyability and the Elios 3

Gedeon GRC recently welcomed Flyability to our Syosset, NY headquarters for a day of hands-on testing, collaboration, and knowledge sharing centered around the future of bridge inspection technology.

The visit provided an opportunity for our team to explore the capabilities of the Elios 3 UT Payload, an advanced robotic inspection solution designed to improve access to critical structural data in challenging environments. Leading the demonstration were Miles Kilcourse, Director of Research & Robotics Services, and Ebad Honarvar, Director of Bridge Engineering, who evaluated the system's innovative cleaning module.

The cleaning module is designed to prepare steel surfaces for ultrasonic thickness (UT) measurements, an important process used to assess structural conditions. By automating and streamlining surface preparation, this technology has the potential to improve inspection efficiency, enhance data collection, and reduce the need for inspectors to access difficult or hazardous locations directly.

In addition to testing the UT Payload, the team conducted bridge inspection demonstrations to evaluate how robotic solutions can support infrastructure assessments. The visit also included video interviews with members of our Robotics and Bridge Engineering teams, creating valuable opportunities to discuss emerging technologies, industry challenges, and the growing role of robotics in modern engineering workflows.

Throughout the day, Flyability representatives shared insights into the latest advancements and features of the Elios 3 platform, providing our team with a deeper understanding of how robotic inspection tools continue to evolve and support safer, more effective infrastructure management.

A special thank you to Matteo Saglia for visiting our headquarters, showcasing the latest Elios 3 capabilities, and sharing his expertise with our team. Collaborative opportunities like these help ensure that Gedeon GRC remains at the forefront of innovation as we continue exploring technologies that enhance safety, improve efficiency, and deliver greater value to our clients.
